Jean-Pierre Bertrand studied at the École Nationale de Cinéma on Avenue de Vaugirard. He had a career as a cameraman and cinematographer on feature film shoots. He joined the television team of the program Archives du XXe siècle as a cameraman, with subjects including De Chirico in Rome and Borges in Buenos Aires, from where he returned with a film from which he took the photograms of the People of Buenos Aires cooling off on their doorsteps. The works from this period in the early 70s are characteristic: photo-texts. He excels at capturing micro-events, minute and intimate moments. Thus, the work Between 4 pm and 4 pm, 1972, or Appearing Disappearing, 1976, a date that marks the end of this period of experimental photographic production.
