Body Art and Performance Art 1969-1972

Vito Acconci

24 April – 25 May 2025

A multifaceted artist, sometimes classified under conceptual art, sometimes body art, sometimes performance art, sometimes video art, without one label contradicting the other. In this regard, he fully represents the early 70s, a period when art opened to the world beyond the studio. Attesting to the central idea of not privileging nor staging any medium, the works each came wrapped in a mailing envelope with a summary listing of their contents. Acconci explores the physical and psychological limits of the body. He subjects it to conditions of variability that disorient established habits.

Saturday 24th (5:30 PM) – On the occasion of the closing of the exhibition Vito Acconci, Body Art and Performance 1969–1972, Victor Hugo Riego, who holds a degree and teaching certification in philosophy from UCL (Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve), will continue his presentation of Vito Acconci’s work, begun at the exhibition opening.
